Scheduled News and Intraday Alerts: Freeze the Calendar and the Event

An event time and a signal eligibility rule are separate inputs. Keep calendar changes and story corrections visible.

Edition: 12 October 2026. Desk research and labelled teaching scenarios.

Use the issuing source

Official release schedules identify the planned timing of their own events. The BLS schedule is a source for its releases, not a complete calendar for every market. Record the source and date checked rather than copying an undated list from a chat room.

This guide does not publish a current trading-news schedule or forecast an event response. A calendar link should be checked for the relevant date and time zone before use.

Predeclare the event role

An event may be context, an excluded observation window or an input to a defined research rule. Name the role before outcomes are visible. Do not decide afterward that a favorable event was eligible and an adverse one was outside the strategy.

A news product can provide information without supplying an entry or exit. Compare the event source and revision behavior instead of awarding a trading win to every subsequent price move.

Preserve corrections and publication

Keep the original story or release, its stated time, receipt and later changes. A corrected headline can contain information unavailable at the first decision. Link it to the original instead of replacing the historical record.

When timing provenance is uncertain, label it uncertain. The existence of an official scheduled time does not establish the device receipt of a particular subscriber alert.

Worked event case

Hypothetical case: a calendar names an upcoming release, a news notification arrives and the reader later sees a large price move. The event and notification are observable inputs. They do not alone establish the direction, eligible entry or attainable execution of a trade.

If a previously declared rule supplies those fields, review its actual object and account boundary. Do not use the later move to invent a rule that was absent.

Keep order and venue constraints separate

A timely message can concern a halted or otherwise unavailable instrument. A calendar does not promise continuous tradability or a particular spread. The actual venue and broker records are the relevant evidence for execution.

Do not infer a provider's performance from the quality of its news source. An accurate event feed and a profitable reaction strategy are different claims.

Write a repeatable calendar record

Retain issuing source, planned time as checked, actual source time where available, timezone, eligible-window rule and update history. Refresh the record when the source changes, not when an outcome becomes attractive.

No paid news feed or latency test was performed for this chapter. It organizes event provenance and prospective rules without presenting an invented market test.

Scheduled does not mean complete

An official source calendar covers its own releases and can change. An intraday study should not claim a complete macro-event population from one schedule. Name which events belong to the declared rule and which are outside it. A missing event should not be filled from a later narrative about why the market moved.

A correction is new information

Keep the time and content of a correction separately from the initial release. A hindsight replay that substitutes the corrected object into the earlier decision gives the strategy information it did not have. This matters even when the final story is accurate and the original alert was promptly delivered.

Venue response is another source

The availability of an instrument or order during an event must be supported by its own record. A news feed can describe the catalyst while a broker or venue determines execution conditions. Do not award or reject a trade purely because a headline preceded an attractive chart move.
